Company Profile
Babbitting Service, Inc. is a family owned business located in the heart of the Midwest making it very accessible to anywhere in the country. BSI has been in the hands of the Farrar family for three generations and now employs over 35 people. Handing down life long skills from generation to generation is what sets us apart from the others. We are currently employing some machinists from the second generation of management while most of our employees have an 8-15 year tenure with our company. We place a high importance on the skills of our employees and use our veteran employees to teach their skills to our new people. At the same time we use our new people to show our veteran employees the new technology in machine tools and cutting technology. This balance keeps us exactly where we want to be, “On the cutting edge of technology with old school hand craftsmanship to bring out the best of both worlds in our work”..

HISTORY
BSI was started by Harold Farrar in the late 1950’s and became incorporated in 1961. Back then the automotive work dominated the company with babbitted connecting rods and babbitted main engine blocks. A few years down the road the company would take a turn into the industrial area of babbitting with Harold bringing his son Donald M. Farrar into the business. Donald went right from the Vietnam War to working the next day at BSI with his father. Donald took over the family business after his father’s early death (1974). Donald took his company to new fields of work and soon abandoned the automotive part of the business to concentrate all efforts in the industrial sector. Years later Donald introduced his sons to the family business and they caught on quickly. BSI is now currently in its third generation being run by Donald’s two sons David Farrar and Kristoffer Farrar. They along with the help of their sister & brother-in-law Michael Kromer are taking BSI to new exciting areas of the industry.

FINANCIAL
BSI has been reporting 10-20% increases in revenues every year for the past 11 years. For the year 2004 BSI has reported 3.7 million dollars in annual gross sales. One of our simple secrets to success is the common sense to keep reinvesting in our company. Every year we are acquiring new CNC and manual machines to either add capacity or to replace slower worn out machines. We along with our employees have a vested interest in our company and it reflects in the quality work we do.
